A role that Rob fulfils for some clients is that of out-sourced, or fractional IT Director. These clients typically use a managed service provider (MSP) to get the day-to-day grunt of the IT workload completed, to ensure ongoing operations and that minor glitches don't cause problems for staff. You will be engaging with and working solely with Rob, so he'll get to know your company, Directors, staff and clients much better than the staff on a typical high-turnover helpdesk will. Rob will ensure that your MSP is doing what they should be (your MSP should be proud to show off their handiwork and the care and dedication they put in to running your systems. But often they squirm when they realise they're having to deal with someone who speaks their language and really knows what excellent looks like. Rob doesn't take any bull!).  Often he'll work with the account manager at your MSP to review support tickets that went wrong, put in place processes and procedures to make things smoother and generally hold them to account.
